The Examined Life

Welcome to the Web site of Sally Santana ~ that would be me.
I am known in my community (Kitsap County, WA) primarily for my faith and values column that runs in The Kitsap Sun (www.kitsapsun.com) every other Saturday. I’m also known for the volunteer work I do with the hungry and homeless. Having spent a good deal of my childhood and youth living in those conditions, I find myself in a place, now, where I can be of some help in eradicating, or at least alleviating it for my neighbors and wider community.
I also produce, with a lot of help from others, two publications that are updated more often than I visit here, so I’ll direct you again to The Kitsap Sun, and then to my blog, “Side Street News”, where the latest versions are posted, along with info on local resources, grant and event opportunities, and other stuff that would benefit the community. They are the “Kitsap Guide for the Homeless and Low-Income” and the “Homeless In Kitsap” newsletter. Both are distributed widely throughout the county. I would post them here but I never got the hang of it using this ftp program. I hafta remind myself I’m good at other things like reading and writing when I feel inept and inadequate :)
I’ll go ahead a list a few groups and committees I’m involved with, so if you have any questions or thoughts along those lines you can shoot me an email and we can yak about it. My email is at the bottom of the page.
I am associated with the: Kitsap Interfaith Network / The Interfaith Network (WA ST) Kitsap Continuum of Care Coalition I’m on the following CoCC committees: Severe Weather Shelter (is morphing into Winter Shelter) Outside Homeless (chair) Point In Time Count Community Education & Outreach (chair) Olympic College “Students In Need Group” (SING) Peninsula Community Health Services (board member rep for low-income) The Salvation Army Homeless Advisory Board South Kitsap School District Whole Child/Whole Community Group Community Transportation Committee Vulnerable Populations Committee (thru Kitsap Dept. of Emerg. Mgmt.)
I organize our local observance of: National Homeless Memorial Day National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
This month I’m off to the Washington State Coalition for the Homeless 20th Annual Conference, thanks to the generosity of friends. I hope to use what I learn to continue to facilitate connections and network my community.
