Here is the Kitsap Community Resource Guide that was distributed at the 2008 Kitsap Continuum of Care Summit on Homelessness.
There are 8 major food banks, from Kingston to South Kitsap, including the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul, and several programs that feed the homeless and low-income that you could give to. Everyone needs help in this economy. Also, if you have fruit trees that will go unpicked, please contact me and I’ll try to match you up with helpers to get it to a food bank. Below are the emails and/or phone numbers to make arrangements: Sharenet/Kingston: http://www.sharenetfoodbank.org/index.html Bainbridge Island Helpline House: North Kitsap Fishline: Central Kitsap Food Bank: (360) 692-9818 Bremerton Food Line: http://foodline.homestead.com/ St. Vincent's-Bremerton: (360) 479-7017 Pastor Art's Homeless Feed/E. Brem: The Lord's Neighborhood Diner: The Salvation Army: http://www.bremertonsalvationarmy.org/index.html South Kitsap Helpline: http://www.helplinefoodbank.org/foodbank.html South Kitsap Family Kitchen
Bless you! for your generous spirit, and please pass this idea on to those you know who can help, too. I’m planning to update this with phone numbers, too.
IF YOU CAN GIVE TO A FOOD BANK, CONSIDER THIS LIST OF MOST OFTEN LISTED NEEDS:
* Canned fruit, tuna, soup, vegetables, chicken * All variety/type of pasta / noodles * Peanut Butter / Jelly-Jam * Rice * Spaghetti Sauce * Boxed dinners * Cereal * Fresh fruit and vegetables
Also, the routine things that we all need like shampoo, diapers, T-paper, toothpaste, detergent for dishes and clothes. And please consider purchasing or giving them money for bus tokens to give to those who need to get to doctor and other appointments.
